I'd like to introduce to you all, a third year team veteran, Kevin Draper. Kevin resides in MA with his lovely wife and two daughters. When you meet him, you'll instantly feel like family. His attitude and spirit are contagious, he's so full of life. We are blessed to have him back on the team. Please take a few moments to get to know him better.
Tell us a bit about you.
I'm a Senior Technical Recruiter and I've been doing that for about 15+ years in the Boston area. I've been married for 13 years and have two active daughters (9 and 12) and a dog (Murphy) who loves trail running as much as I do. We live in a cool area, rich in history and my family enjoys skiing and being outside as much as possible.
What is your connection to adaptive sports? Why are you choosing to fundraise for Vermont Adaptive?
I'm motivated to fundraise for Vermont Adaptive, because it allows folks with disabilities to come to Vermont and enjoy being active outdoors. Vermont has a great culture of people who enjoy active lifestyles and Vermont Adaptive capitalizes on that. I met a woman last year that I helped guide skiing at Pico who had an absolute blast. She travelled from PA to take part in the Vermont Adaptive Ski weekend. You don't have to be from Vermont to participate in Vermont Adaptive activities. I grew up skiing at Mt. Ascutney (back in the 80's) where Vermont Adaptive began. I'll always have joyous memories of the area.
How many years have you been part of Team Run 2 Empower?
This is my third year as a team member. Feel free to reach out to anyone involved on the team to ask/share fundraising/training tips or just say hello. It's pretty an awesome and positive bunch of people I've been privileged to call friends.
What is your earliest running memory?
My father had always been a runner, everything from five milers to marathons. I started running with him when I was in grade school. I remember going to this running store in New Haven, CT (The store was called Running Start) so he could upgrade to a new pair of Nikes. One year, when I was in 5th grade, I beat him in a road race and my mother thought it was sweet that my father had let me win! It turns out, HE was really trying to beat me!!! I'll never forget the feeling of a race well run and I'm always chasing that feeling.....
If you could pick a Hollywood actor to play you in a movie, who would it be and why?
Matthew McConaughey for sure would play me! First his overall attitude and how he treats people in film and in real life would capture me just fine. "alright, alright, alright"........
What are your goals for the Vermont 100?
To wake up at 3am from the sound of my alarm or someone dumping water on me on race day....oh and to finish in 24 hours!
Thanks Kevin for sharing a bit of your story with us. I love your sentiment about chasing that feeling....hope you catch it at Vermont this year. Thanks for making our team so full of life!
