The holidays are nearly upon us, yet there is still time to use the holidays to help fuel your fundraising. Below are a few ideas/tips that might help:
- Ask friends to donate rather than getting you a present this year. This can be as small as asking them to donate $5 or $10 rather than sharing a beer to celebrate the holidays.
- Organize an auction or raffle. If you've got stuff that folks might enjoy as a stocking stuffer, then have folks bid on it or else raffle it off to anyone who donates $5 to your fundraising. What you auction or raffle could be as simple as a tin of home baked cookies, or some yummy homemade fudge.
- Do a holiday run-a-thon. Who doesn't need to run a bit to work off all the holiday treats they ate? (Isn't that how fat asses were born?) Decide on a day that you'll run over the holidays, and have folks donate based on how far you run in a given time, or what your marathon split will be. I once got donations based on how fast I ran a 5 miler - my friend donated a dollar for every second below 35 minutes I got...so I made him pay BIG TIME by running fast!
- Mention your fundraising in your annual holiday card. Your holiday card is a time to share what is important to you and your family with all your friends - so why not tell them that you've committed to running the VT100 next summer and are taking part in the Team Run 2 Empower?
- Offer holiday services for a donation - you can offer to babysit kids while parents go shopping, do gift wrapping, run errands, or cook desserts to help out someone else scrambling to get their holiday to-do list done.
While not all of these potential solutions will work for everyone - think about trying one that is a good fit for you! December is the month with the spirit of giving - see if that giving can extend to your fundraising for Vermont Adaptive!
