Meet Team member Crutch

Michael Crutchley (aka Crutch) is from CT.  He's married to his wife of 23 years and has a 17 year old daughter.  This is his first year on TR2E, although he's been around the VT100 for years and fundraised over $1,600 for Vermont Adaptive at last year's race!  Last year he didn't reach the finish line, so he's excited to put down a finish at the VT100 in July.  Let's get to know him better and welcome him to the team!!

Running down Escarpment in 2018

What motivates you to fundraise for Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports?  Any connection to adaptive sports programs or athletes?
As a person who loves being active in the outdoors, I believe that everyone should have the opportunity, and Vermont Adaptive makes that happen!

Tell us about your earliest running memory.  How did you become a runner?
My earliest running memory was from track in middle school ( I remember I wasn't good), but I didn't start running as an adult until I started taking marital arts and needed a timed run for my black belt test, so I figured I'd get going with it.  I hated it at first, but then something clicked and I started to enjoy it.  Then I found the trails, now I can't imagine life before running......

Enough about running...tell us about the rest of your life!

I've been married for 23 years to my wife and have a wonderful 17 year old daughter.  We're looking for colleges now! We have cats and dogs, including a gigantic Newfoundland puppy, named Ruby.  I do construction, mainly bathrooms and kitchens with custom tile work, and travel all over CT and RI.  I'm a trail manager for CT Forest and Parks for a section of the Narragansett Trail, and I've been a surfer since I was 15!

If they made a movie about your life, which Hollywood actor would play you?

I have no idea, but my wife says John Krasinski (The Office, Jack Ryan) because I'm devastatingly handsome (ha!), kind of a smart-ass, and can handle myself in social situations as well as ward off terrorists as needed!

Goals for VT100?

Finish! Nothing else.

Thank you Crutch for sharing a bit about you! Looks like you may be the right guy to have in a national crisis! We are looking forward to watching you crush the VT100.  Thank you for joining the team!!
