My name is Krista, and I'm a VT100 committee member, and I love running the VT100. I've also ridden it eight times on horseback. I live right here in Brownsville, VT, home of the VT100. I look forward to meeting you all and by the looks of it, some of you are already rockin' the fundraising. GO TEAM! Fantastic!
I wanted to share something that worked really well for me last year when I decided to fundraise for Vermont Adaptive via my VT100 journey. I wanted to create something where my donors felt like they were on this quest with me, together. We (together) were making a difference and they were truly part of my VT100, one mile at a time. So, I used social media to help me share my VT100 Sponsor Board idea. The picture above was my first post in January 2018 on IG and FB. I had already gotten a few family members and myself to donate, to get the ball rolling. I wrote each mile out, 1-100, my mantras and wrote a brief message on my social media outlets with this picture....
"Please consider donating to my VT100 page, this year I'm creating a Mileage Donor Board. You pick a mile you'd love to donate to (lets say $1, $5, $25 etc...whatever you can do and I'll write your name down for that mile.) The board will come with me to the race to keep me motivated on our goal TOGETHER...helping the many folks who depend on Vermont Adaptive to make their love of sports a reality."
I would do monthly posts about my training progress and always show a picture of the sponsor board, so people could see it filling up. Some people donated $5, some $200 and everywhere in between. It was a community of people that were supporting both Vermont Adaptive and my journey itself. Many runners running the 2018 VT100 donated to my board, it was nice to see their names, next to the miles.
It was amazing to see it full.....knowing how many lives this was changing. My sponsors were so excited seeing it fill up...some donating multiple times. At the end of my fundraising, I got a few of my favorite things I use and love during training and races. ProCompression Socks, Red Horse and Co. mantra bracelet, Gift certificate to my favorite shoe shop, Runner's High Herbal rubs and Tailwind, my go to fuel. Then I entered every donors name into an auto name generator that I found online and Voila...I had a winner. I shipped this out to the winner the week after the 100. You could use anything you love for a raffle winner. It was my way of giving back...everyone loves prizes!!!
When I came into the aid stations, I would see my crew, family and the Sponsor board and it truly lifted my spirits. Seeing the names of the people who donated money to a cause I love so dearly, was magical. Every mile ticked by, and I would think of the people who chose that mile, one mile at a time.......
I would love to hear any ideas that worked for you! Can't wait to see you at at Silver Hill....
Happy trails and keep inspiring,
Krista :)
